Privacy Policy

IOM seeks to ensure that personal information processed through the Islamic Philanthropy Fund (IPF) Website is handled with the utmost care and confidentiality. Data privacy is a human right and is essential to human dignity. This Privacy Policy explains the manner in which IOM collects, stores, uses, shares or otherwise processes information about the User on the Website. By accessing and using this Website, the User agrees to the terms in this Privacy Policy (hereinafter referred to as the “Privacy Policy”).

   1. What personal data do we collect, and how?

   1.1 Information you give us

We obtain person information from you when you communicate or share information with us, create an account or make an online donation. In such event, IOM will only use the personal information for the purpose for which it was disclosed.

Depending on the specific purpose (see section 2 below), we may ask you to provide, inter alia, part or all of the following information: your full name, email and/or current location, phone number.

Users must be of 18 years of age or older to be able to create a personal account. IOM does not sell, distribute or rent personal information collected on the Website. Any voluntarily provided personal information collected, received, used, transferred, or stored by IOM will be protected by strict conditions of confidentiality and security at all stages of data collection and processing. IOM will not use the personal information for other purpose than outlined in this Privacy Policy.

1.2 Information we collect automatically: cookies and web analytics

We automatically collect information through the IPF fund Website to help administer, protect, and improve our services.

IOM monitors the overall usage of the Website, which helps IOM make the Website more user-friendly. For this, IOM gathers standard data from server logs, including browser type, device type, operating system, the website that referred you to this Website, files downloaded, pages on the Website visited, with dates and times, data from our cookies (see use of cookies below). With the exception of the IP (Internet protocol) address, none of the data is linked to any personal information.

To improve the User(s) browsing experience, IOM uses cookies that collect information on the User(s) browsing behavior when using the Website. Cookies enable IOM to better tailor its Website to the Users needs and preferences. By using the IOM Website, you agree that we can place cookies on your browsing device. Cookies can be switched off by changing the browser settings but doing so may affect the functionality of certain areas of the Website.

What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small data files placed on the User’s computer or other devices when the User visits the Website. The data that cookies collect are different than any personal information that the User chooses to disclose to IOM for a specific purpose. They identify the User’s browsing device to IOM’s servers via the User’s IP address and provide a variety of information, such as the area(s) of the website visited by the User and for how long. If the User returns to the Website, IOM can determine whether the User previously visited a given page based on the cookie from his/her previous visit. The use of cookies is very common because cookies help website administrators meet the needs of the User(s).

Managing Cookies: Enabling and Disabling Cookies?
To limit the use of cookies, the User can set the browser to notify him/her before any cookies are installed on the User’s device, having the choice to accept or reject the cookie. The browser can also be set to disable cookies altogether. In case of disabling cookies, the User may not be able to use certain features on the Website and may be required to re-enter information more frequently to use certain services on the Website.

How does IOM use Cookies?

Third-Party Cookies
The Website may contain embedded third-party content or plugins, such as links to Facebook, videos on YouTube, photos on Instagram, Twitter, online news platform and other resources. IOM cannot be held responsible for protecting the privacy of data collected by third party cookies even if they link to IOM’s website through embedded content or plugins. Most modern web browsers permit users to disable cookies from third parties while enabling cookies on the host site.

 2. Why do we collect your personal data?

We collect your personal data for one or more of the following purposes:

  • To allow you to contact us and/or receive information from us;
  • For the creation of a User account
  • To process your donation to the IPF fund or any question on how you can support the IPF fund
  • To analyze web statistics and log files, with the aim of improving the functioning of our website;

Your personal data are not used for automatic profiling or decision-making.

3. Who processes your personal data and with whom are they shared?

We may need to share some information you shared with us for donation purposes with the external service provider Fundraise Up in order to facilitate and manage the donation process. This includes personal details such as: name, email address; mailing address and phone number.

4. Security of personally identifiable information

The IPF fund Website implements a series of technologies and security measures, such as encryption and/or authentication tools, in order to safeguard the information maintained on our systems from misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, alteration, or loss.

Although we apply all reasonable means to ensure that the information you furnish us is not used by third parties for purposes other than those described in this Privacy Notice, IOM cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never be able to defeat those measures or use your personal information for improper purposes. You should be aware that no transmission of information via the Internet is ever totally secure. Transmission is therefore at your own risk, and IOM assumes no responsibility for the security of the information. IOM shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the IPF Fund Website (including any liability arising from any interruptions, delays, errors or lost data that may occur).

5. Changes to this Privacy Notice

Please note that this Privacy Notice can change from time to time. If you return to this website after a period of more than one month, please check this Privacy Notice to confirm that you are aware of the details of the most recent update. The updated notice will be posted on this page and, if changes from its previous version are significant, a more prominent notice will be provided.

Your continued use of this website after we post a new Privacy Notice will constitute your acceptance of the new terms and the use of your personal information, including information previously given to us, under the conditions described in the updated Privacy Notice.

6. Rights and contact information

You can request IOM to (a) have information about the processing of your personal data by IOM, (b) access your personal data, (c) correct your personal data, and (d) delete your personal data. You may also object to the further processing of your personal data and/or withdraw your consent. IOM will need to verify your identity to be able to assess your request and it may not always be able to comply, for example, due to safety and security considerations. IOM will assess this on a case-by-case basis and if a restriction is found to be applicable, you will be informed of our reasoning related to this. You can also submit complaints concerning the processing of your personal data by IOM.

7. Privileges and Immunities and applicable law

Nothing in this Privacy Notice shall be construed as constituting a waiver of the privileges or immunities of IOM, nor as its acceptance of the jurisdiction of the courts of any country over disputes arising out of this Privacy Notice. You understand that IOM’s processing of your personal data is governed by IOM’s regulations, rules and policies, to the exclusion of any national or regional system of law.
