On February 25, 2025, the Islamic Philanthropy Fund was officially launched at the United Nations House in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. An important milestone for IOM, the Islamic Philanthropy Fund aims to expand partnerships in the Muslim world and mobilize Muslim alms in support of vulnerable migrant and displaced communities worldwide.

The event brought together almost 100 participants, including Ambassadors, private sector and faith-based leaders, philanthropic influencers, and officials from UN Agencies, highlighting the power of collective action in humanitarian efforts.

IOM Director General Amy Pope welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of increasing collaboration in providing assistance to those in need.

“It is a privilege to be here with all of you today for the launch of the Islamic Philanthropy Fund, a powerful initiative that reflects our collective dedication to deliver critical support to some of the world’s most vulnerable. Together, we can leverage the power of Muslim alms to create a significant impact in the lives of those in need, fostering a sense of solidarity and support that begins today in this room and extends across the globe,” said Director General Amy Pope.

“In the face of today’s crises, which are displacing unprecedented numbers of people and causing tremendous hardship, it is essential that we embrace the spirit of Islamic charity to alleviate suffering, empower communities to rebuild and thrive, and uphold the dignity of those in need,” she added.

A panel discussion explored key topics, including highlighting the opportunities to reshape the international humanitarian framework and the importance of long-term development approaches over short-term interventions, as well as the critical role of partnerships in maximizing impact.

IOM signed two Memoranda of Understanding, one with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the other with the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), reinforcing commitments for Zakat-based humanitarian efforts.

The IPF is dedicated to facilitating Zakat and Sadaqah contributions to assist displaced populations worldwide, ensuring transparency and compliance with Islamic law. You can learn more and even dedicate your Zakat and Sadaqah directly to help people in need, via the new Islamic Philanthropy Fund online platform.
